The game starts shortly after Dragon Age II.
The Mages, who are people with inborn magical talents, which also allow them to access demonic possession and the Templars, who are an order of knights, who control the Mages, are involved in a civil war against each other.
Even though an attempt is made to reach peace, this is cut short when a huge explosion splits the sky, and you emerge as one of the only survivors, with a mysterious power which can help you seal the rift.
Dragon Age: Inquisition is set in a fantasy world’s continent of Thedas.
The game follows the events described in the supplementary novels, Dragon Age: Asunder and The Masked Empire, which is a civil war that transpires between the loyalists of the ruling Empress and a powerful, noble faction led by her cousin, Grand Duke Gaspard, which broke out in Orlais.
The Circle of Magi also goes rogue, in part due to the events of Dragon Age II, and the Templar Order seceded from the Chantry to wage their own civil war on the Mages.
The area traversable in the latest game is much larger than in its predecessors, and covers the countries of Ferelden and Orlais, with a land known as the Dales located within.
What is nice about this game is that multiple playable races are returning, both male and female. Players can play as a human, dwarf or elf. Qunari are also playable for the first time.
Combat differs somewhat from the game’s predecessor and focus more on the player’s ability to prepare, position and form a cohesive team with his or her party members.
There has also been an overhaul in the romance part of the game.
