Entrepreneurs ‘pool’ their talents to start business

With unemployment in South Africa standing at around 25.5 per cent, it is becoming vital, more than ever, for the younger generation to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit.

This is exactly what three men, Bongani Daemane (31), Sabelo Mbeli (27) and Bahlakoana Makhathane (25), have done by establishing a pool company in Windmill Park.

Even though Windmill Park is well-known for its crime-related stories, Daemane says that despite the odds and challenges, Corner King Fisher Pools will hopefully serve as a reminder that it is still possible to create work for yourself and others.

“This is not just about renovating swimming pools, but about job creation, because in Windmill Park it is about getting the youth off the streets and away from crime,” he says.

He adds that as entrepreneurs who took a chance with this venture, they are now in a position to hopefully help others to acquire new skills and even get a job.

“A lot of the youth in Windmill Park are unemployed and some don’t even have matric.

“So far we have been involved in many projects in Sunward Park, Dawn Park and Van Dyk Park.

“This initiative is influenced by where we come from, and the struggles we have endured, which has inspired us to start our our own business.”

They are also looking to open a workshop in the community in order to address unemployment and offer skills courses.
