Raising money and hope to fight cancer
As part of their breast cancer awareness campaign, Lakeside Primary School recently joined forces with the Reiger Park Library and other NGOs to raise awareness and money for cancer.
During the breast cancer awareness initiative at Lakeside Primary, children and staff members at the school dressed in pink outfits and sold ribbons to raise money for Cansa.
The organisers also sold bright pink cloth to participants, who then wrapped them around trees in Reiger Park, including the different schools and Reiger Park Civic Centre, to raise breast cancer awareness.
Attendees had a remembrance ceremony for all affected by the disease, where participants were encouraged to remember those they have lost to cancer and honour those who are fighting or have won the battle.
Staff and children at the school decided to remember and celebrate the birthday of their late former principal Helen Johnson with fundraising efforts for breast cancer research.
Johnson was a principal of the school died of cancer in 2012.
Attendees, including the school children and educators, also went on an awareness walk within the school and released the pink balloons they have been holding as a symbol of respect for cancer survivors and those who died of cancer.
According to one of the organisers, Nelanie Adams, a teacher at the school, all the funds raised will be donated to Cansa. – @FanieBoksburg
