Man arrested for robbing with fake handgun

The Boksburg police busted a 20-year-old man minutes after he allegedly attempted to rob another man, while threatening him with a toy gun.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Kwenzakwakhe Ngobese, police arrested the man at the corner of Commissioner and Hospital roads, after the victim pointed out his attacker.

The suspect allegedly confronted the victim while he was walking along Rondebult Road, next to the bushes between Checkers Hyper and Middle Road.

The victim told the police that the man first asked him for cigarette, and subsequently pulled out what appears to be a real firearm and demanded money.

A passerby approaching the scene of the robbery in progress, disrupted the robber, who then walked away, failing to take anything from the victim.

The matter was then reported to the police who responded swiftly and nabbed the alleged robber.

His fake handgun was confiscated.

He was charged with attempted robbery and is expected to appear in court soon.
