Man with an unlicenced firearm arrested in Vosloorus

A suspicious situation led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man for being in possession of an unlicenced firearm, in Vosloorus on September 23.

According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, the arrest occurred on the N3 highway by Vosloorus, while metro police were patrolling the area.

“Police saw an articulated truck and Toyota Fortuner with three occupants stopped behind it, and one man standing nearby.

“The three occupants of the Fortuner and the man standing next to the vehicles were searched,” says Kgasago.

A 9mm Norinco pistol with its serial number filed off and nine live rounds, loaded in the pistol, were found.

“It turned out that the Toyota Fortuner occupants are the owners of the articulated truck assisting the driver due to a flat tyre.”

The suspect, who claimed he was on his way to Kwa-Zulu Natal, was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition at Vosloorus police station. – @CarmenBoksburg
