According to the Provincial Labour Department’s spokesperson, Mishack Magakwe, the worker (a supervisor) was crushed to death when a machine he was inspecting for water leakages switched on.
“According to the preliminary investigations, the supervisor at the production line was called by one of the computer numerical controlled operators, and informed him about water leakages at his machine.
“The supervisor stopped the machine and went inside it to check where the water was coming from, but while inside the machine, it switched on, crushing him,” explains Magakwe.
Magakwe says that inspectors are now investigating the cause of the fatality, and as to whether the employer was complying with the occupational health and safety procedures during the time of the accident.
“If found that the employer is at fault, we will send our report to the National Prosecuting Authority and recommend that the employer be prosecuted.” – @FanieBoksburg
