Parents encouraged to donate their car seats

The Car Seats for Kids with Imperial is back in partnership with 947’s Breakfast Xpress team.

Drop-off points have been set up across Gauteng.

Parents in Boksburg are urged to donate their car seats and drop them off at the East Rand Mall on October 3, between 7am and 4.30pm.

Over the last three years, 947 and Imperial have chosen to highlight the importance of child safety during October, which is Transport Month, through the collection, refurbishment and redistribution of car seats.

Niki Cronje, Group Marketing at Imperial encourages all South Africans to join in again this year and get their car seats ready before the drive begins.

“If we consider that approximately 250 children die a year in South Africa because they were not strapped in, it is clear that a need exists to increase education around not only strapping a child in, but also ensuring that their child is placed in the correct seat for their weight,” says Cronje.

Samantha Cowen, presenter for the Breakfast Xpress on 947 encourages parents to pull out car seats that have been stored away, dust them off and donate it to the cause.

“Remember that the car seat should be in good working order. Your seat will then be re-upholstered, safety-checked and cleaned to ensure it is safe to use and comfortable, before being handed onto families who cannot, in many cases, afford to purchase a new car seat.” – @TumeloBoksburg
