About 150 members were present.
The meeting was informative, covering all the achievements reached so far this year, and a presentation of the future projects still to be completed before year ending 2014.
The Van Dyk Park CPI is six years strong with the present board holding office for the past two years.
According to the chairperson, Jesse Naicker, their vision is to make Van Dyk Park safe and crime free, and their mission statement is to close off Van Dyk Park with secure fencing and boom-gates.
Naicker encourages anyone interested in joining their dream of closing off Van Dyk Park may contact them on their emergency contact number or e-mail address.
In the last two years, their commitment, which is evident from the passion they have for their community, has stretched from just fighting crime to include all other community-based issues and concerns.
“The growth in numbers of radio users and call signs surpasses the CPI’s objective every single month,” says Naicker.
He also says that they are sitting on 250 call signs in the area, with approximately 500 actual members.
The CPI’s control room has become the hub since February 2014, where all concerns and complaints regarding crime and community issues can be brought, make a note of, and then handed over to the different stakeholders for immediate assistance.
“The CPI knows all too well that working alone is like swimming upstream, therefore, we started this networking partnership with DA Ward Clr Shauné le Roux, SAPS sector manager W/O Rafanyane, Metro Assist (tow trucks), ER24/Netcare/Maponya (ambulances and emergency services), DTF Security (alarm systems and armed response) and E-Track Solutions (Car Track and Cellphone Panic).”

“With this partnership the CPI are able to complete projects, like the entrance point walling and welcome sign, Silverleaf Street road closure, solar geyser installations, walk against crime and fun day, and Cosmos Old Age Home year-end function.
According to Naicker, in their pursuit of fighting crime, the CPI has made remarkable inroads already, such as arrests in hi-jacking, house breakings, ATM tampering, drug possession and petty crimes.
“However, to date, our best and biggest arrest was in respect of the R4-million worth of Abelone found in a house in Lemoen Street, Van Dyk Park.
“As Van Dyk Park CPI members, we are constantly committing ourselves to make our community safe and crime free.
“We strongly urge all residents of Van Dyk Park to join hands with us, because only together, we can make Van Dyk Park safe and crime free,” says Naicker.
