Golden night for local Commonwealth winner
Local resident Ngawethu Ka-Siphiwo, has been crowned the new Miss Commonwealth South Africa for 2014/15 at Gold Reef City on Friday, August 29.
Ka-Siphiwo describes the crowning as the best moment ever.
“I must be quite honest, winning always comes as a surprise,” says Ka-Siphiwo.
“It is not like it is something you know is certain. With that said, I put my best foot forward – I was consistent and most of all, I remained positive.
“When they called my name, for some time I was a bit confused knowing that the four month programme was worth it and my award was the crown.”
It is the first year the pageant is held in SA on a grand scale.
This year the pageant supported the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust, Ikageng Aids Ministry and the breast cancer initiative, Pink Drive.
It was a spectacular and glamorous event with celebrities Marilyn Ramos (Miss South Africa 2012) and Nadia Beukes (Kyknet presenter) among the judges.
Actress Zetske van Pletzen and actor Altus Theart were the MC’s for the night.
Forty-four finalists competed for the crowns of Miss Teen and Miss and Mrs Commonwealth SA 2014/15.
Ka-Siphiwo competed against 13 other hopeful beauties in her category.
“I plan to continue working with Ikageng Aids Ministry as they have a group called ‘The Versatile Youth Masters’, who are the first beneficiaries of my project, ‘The Boss Club Mentorship’ programme.
“However, I would also like to invest in Boksburg. I will identify young people that need the most assistance, who will also be beneficiaries of the project, and invest in brand visibility that will grow the Commonwealth brand in South Africa by attending events.”

Ka-Siphiwo is a qualified fashion designer with an events-coordination and brand management background.
She is also an emerging entrepreneur who helped establish, and is editing, two online fashion magazines, Ilaphulam (my fashion) and Zingce (take pride).
“Career wise I plan to continue being an ambassador for the company, Edcon-Jet that I currently work for, while also taking my online magazines to greater heights by celebrating those that continue to make South Africa a better place.”
Ka-Siphiwo will represent South Africa at the international pageant in London to be held in November.
All 53 Commonwealth-member States are invited to send their representatives to compete for the prestigious titles. – @IschkeBoksburg
