Minor convicted of murder – court news in brief

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* A 16-year-old boy appeared in court on a charge of murder.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 7, and sentenced on August 25 to 12 years imprisonment.

On December 17, 2013, the boy killed Muzi Mekana in Vosloorus, by stabbing him with a knife in his chest.

The boy claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided, and Vuthlari Mulungwa, Nokosazana Tyeku and Leon Naude appeared on behalf of the State.

* Thulani Xolwana (42), from Windmill Park, appeared in court on a charge of attempted murder.

He pleaded not guilty on August 4, was found guilty and sentenced on August 25 to 12 years imprisonment.

On April 6 the accused attempted to kill Selby Nyandeni by hitting and stabbing him.

The complainant’s left flank, buttocks and thigh sustained injuries.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided, and Vuthlari Mulungwa, Nokosazana Tyeku and Leon Naude appeared on behalf of the State.

* Selwyn September (30), from Reiger Park, appeared in court on a charge of robbery.

He pleaded not guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on August 25 to three years imprisonment.

On June 5, the accused robbed CR Ruiters of a cellphone, to the value of R2 000.

He had a previous conviction of rape from 2004.

Magistrate Emmanuelle Magampa presided, and Angeline Mooiman appeared on behalf of the State.

* Roger Ntombela appeared in court on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on August 27 to a fine of R3 000 or 12 months imprisonment, suspended for five years, on the condition he pays the complainant a sum of R350 for medical expenses.

On July 20 the accused assaulted Sifisu Ngwenga by hitting him with a panga.

He had previous convictions of theft from 2008, house-breaking from 2010 and possession of drugs from 2012.
