Business robbery turns into perjury

A woman was arrested for perjury after she claimed that she was robbed at a liquor store, in Main Reef Road, on August 25.

According to the complainant, one man walked into the store after it opened and pointed a firearm at her.

She claimed that he instructed her to hand over the safe keys and that another three men then entered the store.

She said that they took R120 000 and alcohol, and loaded it into a white van with unknown registration number. The value of everything claimed to be lost was R180 000.

According to Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, Det WO Vusi Tlemo investigated the matter,

“When he studied the video footage, he could see no suspicious-looking person or vehicle close to the shop,” she said.

“The complainant then admitted that she was lying and that no robbery took place; she alleged that she had lost R50 000 and she was afraid that her mother would ‘kill her’.”

The case of business robbery was closed, a case of perjury was opened and the suspect was arrested. – @CarmenBoksburg
