Filthy hospital conditions even shames nurse
Boksburg resident, Sebrina Bezuidenhout, has raised her concerns over the state of the Tambo Memorial Hospital.
According to her, she took her boyfriend to the hospital’s emergency room on August 9.
“The service was fine, however, I was totally disgusted by the cleanliness of the hospital,” says Bezuidenhout.
She says that the toilet was covered by urine and faecal matter, left for others to continue to use.
“The nurse was even embarrassed when I told her. I just feel that we pay so much tax and get services like this, it’s not right.”
Jack Bloom, DA Gauteng Health spokesperson, says that unfortunately, many State hospitals rate low on cleanliness.
“Toilets seem to be a particular problem and poor hygiene in hospitals can lead to cross-infection, because of infectious sick patients.”
He says that if the Tambo Memorial Hospital is short of cleaners, they should use young people on the Expanded Public Works Programme to assist.
“There should be no compromise in ensuring a high state of cleanliness in a hospital,” says Bloom.
The Advertiser contacted the Gauteng Department of Health, as well as the hospital for comment. At the time of going to print no comment had been received. – @CarmenBoksburg
My mom has been admitted to this disgusting Tambo Memorial Hospital which is nothing other than a ‘TRASH DUMP’ that the government refers to as a ‘State Hospital’. I don’t believe for one minute that the nurses are ashamed of the conditions that they have to work in, because if the really truly were, they could stand together and get the Health Department Officials & Government Officials to actually get off there ‘fat lazy’ asses and do something about cleanliness. We take in food everyday for my mom to eat healthy, ‘clean’ home cooked food, I am sure if my mom had to eat the hospital food, she will surely die in there of either food poisoning, or severe diarrhea. Last night when trying to dish up some food for my mom, I was actually having to flick cockroaches off her bed, the curtain and her side table. Absolutely disgusting, and for the amount of taxes that the public have to pay from their measly salaries, only for the Government Officials to have ‘their hands in the cookie jar’, so that they can live in luxury, while their own race has to be treated for medical conditions in such a disgustingly filthy place, which is supposed to be a place of cleanliness. My husband needed to use the toilet and when he walked into the toilet right outside ward 20 & 21, he came out immediately & said it was so disgustingly filthy in there he was concerned about the germs that had stuck to the soles of his shoes. Congratulations ‘Health Department Officials’ for the brilliant ‘Zero’ services you render for the health of the nation … Good on You!!!
