Head-on collision left three dead, two injured

Three men have been killed in a head-on collision between a Golf 3 and a Toyota Hilux 4×4 on Main Reef Road, in Lilianton.

The incident took place at around 8pm on Friday, July 25.

A Red Golf 3 was reported to have been travelling the wrong way towards oncoming traffic before it crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

According to a tow truck driver, the Toyota Hilux driver told him that the driver of the Golf suddenly drove into oncoming traffic and caused the two cars to collide head-on.

Both drivers sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to hospital by ambulances.

Three occupants in the Golf were trapped inside the vehicle after the crash.

Jaws of life were used to extricate them, and they were all declared dead on the scene.

Apparently one of the wheel bearings on the Golf failed, causing the vehicle to swerve from side to side, hitting the oncoming car, and a brick wall outside Balmoral liquor store.

The police have not yet confirmed if any of the drivers will be charged with any criminal charges.
