According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, the arrest took place on July 27 around 9.30am with the assistance from the members of the community.
“The metro police were conducting high visibility patrols in the area when they were approached by members of the community who described the suspect named by the victim.
“A short while later the suspect was cornered and arrested in Gerrie Oberholzer Street.”
He says they intervened when the community members wanted to lynch the suspect and he was safely taken into custody at Reiger Park police station.
“Allegedly, the rape took place in a passage between two houses in Oxford Street.
“Thereafter, the girl was seemingly moved to a storeroom around Oxford Street where she was again sexually assaulted.”
The 24-year-old suspect is facing charges of raping of an under-aged girl and he is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon. – @CarmenBoksburg
