Mercy Haven reopens, hires new staff
Mercy Haven, place of shelter for abused women and children has reopened following temporal closure for renovations.
The shelter closed down for a little over a month from May before the officially reopening on July 1.
The shelter’s manager, Rose Taggart, hailed the change and everyone who was involved.
“A big thank you to all the donors who have supported us; thank you to Johan Botha who was the main contractor (for the renovating), as well as Anthony Ndjibu,” says Taggart.

The face-lifted Mercy Haven also includes new staff members with social auxiliary worker Sindi Manana and social worker Meray Mpedzisi signing up for duty.
Asked about her experience since her June 1 appointment, Manana said: “It has been great, loving every minute of it and learning a lot. It’s good to see the children appreciating what we do for them.

“But the main aim is to make the ladies (who live at the shelter) become better people.”
Other additions made to the shelter are new programmes that focus on child development.
The new-looking Mercy Haven will hold a Women’s Day function on August 8, followed by the shelter’s 10th anniversary celebration on the following week.
