St Francis comes alive on Mandela Day

St Francis Centre was abuzz with activity on Mandela Day as various organisations spent their 67 minutes gardening, cleaning, playing, painting, entertaining and feeding the children and adults at the centre.

C&N Petroleum Equipment brought goodiebags, toys, blankets and clothes for the children, while also spending time painting their faces.

“We wanted to spend Madiba Day with the children because Madiba loved children,” said Charlene Nel from the company.

SA Home Loans and Velile Tinto were another companies that chose St Francis as their organisation of choice for donation of money and goods.

The companies donated just over R13 000 to the Centre.

Staff members from Barloworld served the adult patients at St Francis Centre with tea, coffee and cake.

They also played various board games with the patients, cleaned their windows and donated bedding and other groceries to the centre.

Brandon Ehlers from Danone said the company would refurbish the entire entrance area to St Francis.

“We are also building a wendy house that will serve as a ‘book nook’ or mini library,” explained Ehlers.

Ehlers said St Francis had been chosen as a worthy charity on Mandela Day.

Delight Your Passenger brought along a clown to entertain the children and also made a donation of clothes, food, hats, books and Bible packs.

OneCrusher spent more than 67 minutes at the centre, and supplied all the staff members, patients and children at with boerewors rolls the entire day.

The company also made a cash donation of R6 700 and fixed electrical faults and metal problems.
