Hooting in protest against e-tolls

A banner written “Hoot if against E-tolls’ caused quite a stir as motorists drove past it hanging on the N12 highway above Rondebult Road on Friday, July 18.

In a joint-initiative to take a stand against E-tolls, Proudly E-tag Free partnered with Bikers Against Tolls (BAT) and Cars Against Tolls (CAT) in putting up the banner.

According to the founder of the movement, Rob Hutchinson, Proudly E-tag Free was launched in August 2013, but the team has only been putting up banners on the highways for the past two months.

“We have 12 banners which we put up across Gauteng every morning and every afternoon with no fail,” explains Hutchinson.

Hutchinson says he started the movement to encourage road users not to pay E-toll and not to buy E-tags.

“We started by handing out stickers, to give motorists courage and show them that they are not alone in the quest against this unjust and irrational law.

Hutchinson is associated with Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) and says the movement will continue spreading the message that motorists should not get E-tagged.

People can get involved by volunteering to help out on a bridge or by sponsoring a banner. Contact Hutchinson on 084 557 4828 or Cynthia on 082 550 9802. – @TumeloBoksburg
