Children remain a vulnerable target

In February, the Advertiser reported that a knife-wielding robber was targeting youngsters in the Boksburg North precinct.

A mother has come forward stating that this happened to her son, in April.

Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, says parents need to teach their children their closest police station’s telephone number.

“Your child must always tell someone where they are going and not display valuables like cellphones, jewellery and Ipads when walking home from school,” she says.

She adds that parents or caretakers of children must:

* be responsible for their children and ensure their safety at all times;

* ensure that there is a good communication channel between children and the school;

* know their child’s friends;

* keep a close watch over their child at shopping centres;

* make sure their child knows all the emergency numbers, and make sure they are saved on the child’s phone. – @CarmenBoksburg

  1. I am the mother who reported the incident – I have taught my son all of the above and as stated before – took him to the police station where they were nonchalant – only stating is was a problem – no case opened and to date no visible olicing in the area. For goodness sake – it happened where 2 schools are located. And I would also like to know what happened to the suspects that were allegedly arrested in Feb??
