Strike committee to convene

Numsa’s National Strike Committee (NSC) will convene today, July 15, to consider a detailed programme of action to intensify the strike.

Castro Ngobese, spokesperson for Numsa, says that they are waiting for feedback from the Steel and Engineering Industry Federation of SA (Seifsa).

“We presented the position of our National Executive Committee (NEC) to the employers. In essence Seifsa’s final offer was rejected by the Numsa NEC,” he says.

Ngobese adds that Seifsa responded by saying that the mandate from their council was that should Numsa not accept the settlement offer of July 8, then the offer is withdrawn.

“After Seifsa’s further discussions with Numsa in the July 14 meeting on the issues of wages and labour broking, they made an undertaking to go back to their council for a mandate.”
