Cosmos elderly knit for a good cause

Twelve residents at Cosmos Old Age Home have decided to knit teddy bears, beanies, booties and Mother Theresa Vests for premature babies.

The oldest resident in this dynamic group is 89 years old.

Yvonne Pohl is the organiser of this group.

Up to now, the group has distributed 12 teddy bears, 342 beanies and 11 outfits for premature babies.

According to Pohl, they have contributed their work to the Gauteng Toy Run, the Barberton Methodist Church, Boksburg Methodist Church and St Francis Care Centre.

The group has also knitted 20 pairs of bed socks for the frailcare in Cosmos Old Age Home.

“Active Ageing is one of the most important programmes in an Old Age Home,” says social worker at Cosmos Old Age Home Karen Meyer.

“The elderly need to be motivated emotionally and this kind of programme prevents anxiety and depression.”

Pohl calls on the community to support the group by donating wool and stuffing for their upcoming Christmas Project called “Santa’s Teddies”.

Contact Pohl at 082 338 2319 or Meyer at 011 915 5416 should you be able to help with wool or other material. – @IschkeBoksburg
