Braai fork used in robbery – court news in brief

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg magistrates Court:

* Sibusio Ndlovu (23), Themba Zwane (22) and Siphiwe Msomi (21), from Soweto, appeared in court on charges of house robbery and aggravated robbery.

They pleaded not-guilty on April 16, were found guilty on June 27 and sentenced on June 30.

Ndolvu was sentenced to six years imprisonment on charge one and 20 years imprisonment on charge two.

Zwane was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on charge one and 15 years imprisonment on charge two.

Msomi was sentenced to six years imprisonment on charge one and 15 years imprisonment on charge two.

On October 15 the men broke into the home of Carl Binneman and assaulted Daisy Mutana and stole various items to the value of R45 000.

The men used a knife and braai fork to commit the crime.

All the suspects had previous convictions.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided over the matter, and Leon Naude appeared on behalf of the State.

* Sifisu Mhlangu (31), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of house break-in with the intent to steal.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on May 19, and sentenced on July 1, to three years imprisonment.

On April 24, the accused broke into the home of Bongani Mduli and stole a cellphone, sunglasses, watch and two bracelets.

He had previous convictions of assault in July 2002, robbery in February 2004 and theft in April 2007.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Sithole Lovemore (21) and Simphiwe Khoza (23), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

They pleaded guilty, and were found guilty on June 3 and sentenced on July 1. The magistrate postponed the passing of sentence for five years.

On May 17, the men assaulted Adolph Khoza by hitting him with a plate.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Solomon Baloi (28) and Isaac Baloi (28), from Thembisa, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

They pleaded not-guilty, were found guilty and sentenced on July 1. The magistrate postponed the passing of sentence.

On May 17, the men stole steel, to an unknown value, from Johannes Pieterse.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Vhungani Ramakokovhu (57), from Kempton Park West, appeared in court on a charge of assault.

He pleaded not-guilty on September 30, was found guilty and sentenced on June 26, to R3 000 or six months imprisonment suspended for five years.

On March 16, 2012, the accused assaulted Jack Mduli by biting him on his finger.
