Dawn Park police spokesperson Charles Tshabalala says residents should take precautionary measures to avoid becoming a target of robbery.
This follows an incident in Van Dyk Park, on Wednesday, June 18, when the Van Dyk Park Community Patrolling Initiative (VDP CPI) patrollers, along with the Dawn Park SAPS and E-Track Solutions, assisted a family after they had been victims of an armed robbery.
“Four males were awaiting the victim as he drove into his driveway; three of the men had firearms and dragged the man into the house, forcing him and his family to lie face down as they took valuables and goods worth R200 000 from the house,” says Tshabalala.
He adds that the men also found two car keys in a handbag, which they had emptied of its contents, and used the keys to drive off with the family cars.
“With the help of Tracker, one car was found and the other car, which didn’t have a tracking device, was found abandoned,” he says, and advises residents is to change their routine daily when returning home.
“Don’t leave your car idling while you open the gate and garage. You should also change the direction of how you get home while try coming home at different times,” advises Tshabalala.
The suspects are still on the loose; police are investigating.
