Fundraiser to help children discover themselves
Urban Ruins held a mini-market to raise money for a project aimed at improving the lives of children on Saturday, June 7.
This project is a social entrepreneur venture that has been running since February this year to uplift children in the community of Boksburg.
The aim is to collect enough money through donations and mini-markets to build ablutions and a children’s day centre.
The project, started by director Leigh Hudson-Ingle and Julie Hudson-Ingle, also owns a property where children can play safely, including Saturdays.
They also provide creative activities which include karate, guitar, drums, arts and craft lessons and yoga.
At the premises, children are provided with access to outdoors activities including a BMX dirt track, a skateboard park in and around the ruins of a house, trampoline and swings and one jungle gym.
The children are also encouraged to play sports.
Leigh pointed out that this project is not a charity, but its main goal is to teach children that they can be self-empowered to progress in life.
On Saturdays, they provide workshops on how to fix your bicycles, gardening and growing vegetables.
They also run a market where children are encouraged to become entrepreneurs by selling items.
