
*Marius Bester, from Pomona, appeared in court on nine charges of contravening the Tax Act, and a charge of uttering.
He pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on May 30 to 10 years imprisonment, suspended for five years, for the nine charges and R6 000 or three years imprisonment with a further three years suspended for five years for the uttering charge.
The accused submitted an untrue and incorrect VAT return to SARS and, based on the false information, was entitled to a return of R903 470.18. He also forged documents that were submitted to SARS.

On September 29, 2013, the accused contravened the order when he assaulted the complainant by hitting and kicking her.
He had previous convictions of theft in 1993 and 1995, possession of stolen property in 2000 and 2003, assault in 2012, possession of drugs in 2012, malicious injury to property in 2012, and five charges of assault in 2012.
He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.

* Lebogang Sibanyoni (31), from Wattville, appeared in court on a charge of theft.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on May 14 and sentenced on May 30 to R5 000 or 10 months imprisonment.
On February 1 the accused stole a cheque card from Adele Coetzee.

* Kanana Mafileka, from Reiger Park, appeared in court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and a charge of malicious injury to property.
He pleaded not guilty on February 9, was found guilty and sentenced on May 29 to three months imprisonment suspended for three years and R3 000 or three months imprisonment, respectively.
On September 19 the accused assaulted Jabu Ndlovu by hitting him with a brick and caused damaged to his vehicle windscreen, to the value of R1 600.

* Thabo Matjila (22), from Soweto, appeared in court on a charge of theft.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on May 20 and sentenced on May 30 to R5 000 or six months imprisonment with a further six months suspended for five years.
On March 26 the accused stole eight pairs of Guess jeans from Edgars, East Rand Mall, to the value of R5 392.

* Godwin Udoji (33), from Cason Road, appeared in court on a charge of robbery.
He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on May 8 and sentenced on May 30 to 12 months imprisonment with a further six months suspended for five years.
On April 10 the accused assaulted and robbed Joy Habe of R300 cash.
