Burglaries
* Thieves force-opened a door of a house along Butch Jantjies Road, Reiger Park, and stole a TV set valued at R9 000, on Friday morning, May 16. The owner was still asleep inside the house.
* Another victim told the police that she woke up to find an intruder standing inside her bedroom. The victim says she was fast asleep just after midnight, on May 16, when someone opened the window of her bedroom. The intruder left without stealing anything.
* Thieves forced their way into a shack in Delmore informal settlement on Saturday, May 17, and stole valuable goods.
They stole a portable radio, safety boots, memory card and a driver’s license.
Robbery
* A suspect robbed a boy of R500 at a flat in Reiger Park, on Friday, May 16.
The victim’s mother told the police that the robber hit her son in the face with an open hand and stole the money.
* A school child escaped rape after two men attempted to sexually abuse her while she was walking alone from on her way home on May 17. She alleges that two men confronted her before stealing her cellphone and watch.
While the pair was still trying to rape her, two passers-by noticed the suspicious activity and intervened. The suspects ran away.
* Also at about 6pm, on May 18, hungry robbers targeted a spaza shop, taking stock worth R1 175.
The victim told the police that on his way back to the shop, he was confronted by the two men known to him.
Carjacking
A man escaped death on Sunday evening, May 18, as an armed man held a gun to his head while hijacking his Ford Focus, valued at R250 000.
The victim told the police that the incident took place outside a yard along Butch Jantjies Road, Reiger Park, while he and his girlfriend were sitting in the parked vehicle.
The hijacker forced the driver out of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the girlfriend jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the yard while screaming for help.
The hijackers also took the victim’s wallet before driving off in his vehicle.
Valuable goods inside the hijacked vehicle include two guitars worth R1 500 and an amp worth R5 000.
