Hewitt fails to appear in court

A warrant of arrest was issued on Monday for Bob Hewitt (74), as he did not show up for his trial on Friday, May 9.

A Boksburg Court judge issued the warrant, and ordered that it stand over to Friday, June 6, to give former tennis champion Hewitt the chance to appear in court.

Hewitt is accused of two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault against underage girls he coached in the 1980s and 1990s.

An ill Hewitt was not present on January 10 when the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court adjourned the case to May 9.

Last year Hewitt missed his court appearance apparently also due to ill health.
