Police lockdown leads to quiet weekend n Reiger Park

It was a quiet Easter weekend for the Reiger Park SAPS despite many residents fearing violence over the four days.

According to the spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, police officers responded to a few assaults and one shooting incident, between April 17 and 22.

“We have also seen a big drop in crime in the areas where we usually have problems,” adds Phathela.

Phathela believes that the reason for the decrease in criminal activity could be due to increased patrols and operations by police officers from different police units.

“This has also been achieved through the recent working partnership between the police and members of the community, such as members of the CPF, Youth Desk and community leaders.”

To reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the Reiger Park policing precinct, officers from the Reiger Park SAPS, Public Order Policing (POP), K9 Unit and Flying Squad ran targeted operations in crime hotspot areas.

Police will continue patrolling the precinct regularly and continue to make arrests for crimes committed.
