This follows two cases where complainants made false statements to the police.
Perjury is the offence of wilfully telling an untruth or making a false statement under oath.
Boksburg North police spokesperson Juanita Coetzer says on March 17, a 45-year-old complainant opened a case of housebreak-in and theft.
After investigation, it was revealed that the owner unlocked the door of his home with his own key.
The complainant was arrested on a charge of perjury.
In another case, on March 20, a 24-year-old complainant alleged that he was hijacked of his Mercedez Benz by an unknown person with a firearm.
Coetzer says his vehicle was recovered in Brakpan, and the tracking company indicated in their report that he was not hijacked.
He was arrested on a charge of perjury.
Coetzer says perjury is a serious crime and the consequences can be severe.
“Herewith take note that Boksburg North SAPS have a zero-tolerance approach towards false complaints, and will deal with the reporter accordingly. Therefore, be aware of making false statements.”
