Reiger Park placed under lockdown following reports of shooting

Reiger Park has again been placed under police lockdown following the recent fatal shooting incidents in the area.

To address the problem of killing, drug peddling and other unlawful gang activities in Reiger Park, the Gauteng police management has deployed dozens of police officers.

Heavily armed police officers from Gauteng Public Order Policing and Flying Squad have been drafted in to help overstretched police services in the area to tackle the gang feud that is said to have claimed many lives.

Patrol tactics are being used to establish a highly visible and accessible police force to combat lawlessness. The police say that drugs and gang violence are the primary focus of the unit.

Between March 7 and 11, these officers managed to arrest 50 people for drug-related crimes.

The increased police presence it seems has had a positive impact on the level of violent crimes.

The police, however, states that violent and drug-related crimes can only be solved if the community work hand-in-hand with the police.

This can be easily achieved if the people who witness and have information about any criminal activity to come forward with information.

Those with information can simple send their detailed tip-offs to Crime Line’s 32211 SMS service, by calling 08600 10111 or by submitting a tip-off online at www.crimeline.co.za.

These services are 100 per cent anonymous and are designed to protect the identity of the tipster.
