Boksburg welcomes bully dogs
The South African Bully Kennel Club (SABKC) held their bully dog show on North Rand Road on March 8.
The bully dog is a new breed, which has been imported from America. These dogs have been bred to have a calmer, more stable temperament than that of pitbulls.
Although they may have similar characteristics of pitbulls, these dogs have larger heads and heavier bones.
There have been about 30 bully dogs imported into the country and 150 puppies bred from them.
The dogs were placed into one of four categories for judging at the event.
These were:
* XL – these included the taller, bigger boned bully dogs.
* Standard – the shorter, strong boned, broader shouldered dogs.
* Poppet – these are the shorter dogs who look similar to bulldogs. They are also heavy boned.
* Puppies.
The SABKC hosts four shows a year where they raise awareness about this new breed.
The next event will be held on June 7, with the American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC) attending.
The location of the event has yet to be announced.
