Drainage systems cause flooding

Municipality says the existing drainage systems on Trichards and Viewpoint roads need to be upgraded in order to accommodate storms.

This follows a complaint to the Advertiser by Trevor Babich, who has had to endure flooding in his home, every time heavy rains fall.

Babich says he has taken the matter up with the municipality on numerous occasions, and three months ago with Clr Graham Gersbach, who sent an e-mail addressing the matter to members of the municipality.

The Advertiser is in possession of this email.

Babich says he is now fed-up and would like the matter to be resolved as soon as possible as he has incurred drastic costs repairing damages caused by the water over the years.

In his e-mail, Gersbach says there are a number of other residents along Viewpoint Road who have complained to him about the flooding.

Acting metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, says Sanral has been working at this intersection, so there is a chance that damage was caused to the drainage system.

“The existing system needs an upgrade anyway, but this can only be done in the next financial year,” says Gadebe.
