Child rapist gets life imprisonment

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Bongani Mthembu (20), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of rape.

He pleaded not-guilty on January 22, was found guilty on February 20, and sentenced on February 24, to life imprisonment.

On April 20, 2013, the accused raped a 12-year-old girl. According to the girl the man was telling her and her little sister a bedtime story and she fell asleep. When she woke up the accused was on top of her, having intercourse.

The accused’s name will be included in the national sexual offences register.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided over the matter, and Leon Naude and Vuthlari Mulungwa appeared on behalf of the State.

* Jacobus Coetzee (24), from Parkrand, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on January 8, and sentenced on February 20, to R3 000 or two months imprisonment.

On November 19, 2013, the accused stole one bottle of semi-sweet wine, to the value of R33.95, from Woolworth Food Store in Parkrand.

He had a previous conviction of theft from June 2010, and was found unfit to possess a firearm.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter, and Ntombi Mbonani appeared on behalf of the State.

n Thabang Msibi (21), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of assault.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on February 21, to R3 000 or nine months imprisonment.

On January 7, the accused assaulted Sam Mpongose by hitting him with an iron rod. The victim sustained abrasions, bruises and swelling.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

n Mandla Zulu (34), from Kathlehong, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on January 29, and sentenced on February 25, to three years imprisonment.

On January 23 the accused stole two tins of shoe polish, to the value of R65.90, from Pick n Pay.

He had previous convictions of theft from, August 2008, November 2008, June 2009, January 2010, July 2010 and September 2010.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.
