This is after a van full of cycads was found in his yard.
Acting on a tip-off, conservation officials and police officers stormed the suspect’s home and found 15 uprooted cycad plants loaded on the van, on Monday night, February 10.
The man was charged with possession of cycads without a valid permit. The cycads were then confiscated.
Conservation officials says the suspected stolen cycads are valued at about R50 000.
They add that thieves often dig up cycads from public lands and sell them to collectors.
