Guilty sentences for theft

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Lenha Maseko (29) and Maria Maseko (62), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

They pleaded guilty and were found guilty on January 22, and sentenced on February 3. The magistrate postponed sentencing for five years.

On December 21, 2013, the women assaulted Timothy Molope by hitting him with sticks.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Herman Tsepho (28), from Katlehong, appeared in court on charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on February 3, to a fine of R2 000, or six months imprisonment.

On May 11, 2013, the accused stole two pairs of shoes from Mr Price to the value of R139.98.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Phillip Tshabalala (42) and Johannes Morundla (28), from Windmill Park, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

They pleaded guilty, were found guilty and sentenced on January 24, to a fine of R30 000 or 36 months imprisonment, of which R15 000 or 18 months imprisonment was suspended for five years.

On November 25, 2013, the men stole four pieces of cable belonging to Transnet. The cables are used for signal communication for the rail environment.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Chitimbe Waven (29), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on February 5, to a fine of R2 000, or eight months imprisonment.

On January 5 the accused stole four tins of shoe polish from Boxer.

He had a previous conviction of possession of drugs, from March 2007.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Oscar Molewa (29) appeared in court on charges of theft and assault.

He pleaded not guilty on November 11, was found guilty and sentenced on January 30.

He was sentenced to a fine of R2 000 or four months imprisonment on the theft charge, and R1 000 or three months imprisonment on the assault charge.

Both sentences were suspended for five years.

On April 26, 2013, the accused stole six bottles of face wash, two bottles of Dettol and one bottle of Veet hair remover from Ricket Benckiser and Momoloko Mamoriri. The accused also assaulted Mamoriri by punching him in the face and body.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided, and Busi Mafokeng appeared on behalf of the State.
