Residents unite in prayer against crime and violence
Hundreds of Reiger Park residents came together on Sunday, January 19, to pray against the increasing crime and violence in their township.
Residents say the ongoing violence have driven them to despair.
They are now asking God to transform their society.
The interdenominational prayer service organised by the CPF was attended by representatives from the SAPS, EMPD, CPF, community patrollers, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, and members of the different churches in the area.
Criminal street gangs, gun violence, murders, robberies, thefts, burglaries, drug-related crimes are among the ills residents say plague the township.
During the event themed “Prayer for peace in the hood”, speakers said it will take every resident to overcome these problems.
During the prayer procession, pastors, along with the police, led hundreds of people to different parks where they prayed for this community scourged by crime.
Hotspots included the sections called the Flats and the park on Vickers Crescent Street.
Different speakers highlighted the need for Christians throughout Reiger Park to drop their denominational alliances, to let go of their prejudice mindsets, and come together as a community to pray and stand against crime.
The next prayer service against crime will be held on May 18.

Im a true believer in Christ the Lord Jesus and i also believe that GOD can effect change in the REIGER PARK ill situation only if the people who commit violence and crime of all kinds are willing to change thmselves and their ways.
