Newborn baby boy found dead in Lake of Doom

A newborn baby boy's body, his age believed to be two or three weeks, was found floating in the Boksburg Lake, near the Boksburg Library, on Monday, January 13.

The dreadful discovery of the decomposing remains of the boy was made by a 12-year-old girl, who described the incident as cruel and inhuman.

The stinking white plastic bag full of flies caught the eye of the girl, who was at the time exploring the lake just after 2pm, on Monday.

On seeing the suspicious-looking plastic bag floating on the water, beneath the bridge at the lake, she went back home and informed her 26-year-old sister-in-law of the discovery.

They both went back to the lake and pulled the bag from the water. This is when they noticed something resembling a human body inside.

They reported the matter to EMPD police officers, who were at the time seen patrolling near the scene.

“When we informed the officers of the plastic bag, they just laughed at us and said maybe what we were seeing inside the bag is a dead dog,” says the 12-year-old girl.

“We insisted on them to investigate the matter, but they kept on laughing at us.”

The 12-year-old girl who discovered the body says the shocking discovery has left her shaken.

“It’s not nice to see things like that…I can’t sleep at night, because the moment I close my eyes, I see the body,” says the girl.

Her mother says she will arrange for her daughter to receive counselling.

Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Mathanda Ngobese confirmed the discovery, adding that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“An inquest docket has been opened into the death of the baby, and medical examiners will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death,” explains Ngobese.

The body was taken to the Germiston state mortuary.

Police are appealing for information on the matter.

The baby’s body was the fourth body to be pulled from the Boksburg Lake so far.

The body of Mzimasi Mkwantsa was discovered floating in the water of the lake on the morning of December 11, 2012.

A foetus was also found in the lake in 2012, while a woman’s body (Susanna Maria Vorster) was also found in the lake on February 8, 2011.

  1. Strange how my mothers name gets mentioned in your article again but no leads to her horrific death has been found! This makes me soooo mad! And please spell her surname correct VORSTER! I say the lake must be destroyed, filled with sand or closed to the public. It’s a disgrace!
