Hijack victim left bruised

A struggle between hijackers and a victim led to a shooting incident and left the victim, a woman, with minor bruises on her cheek.

The incident happened in Sunward Park, on Wednesday, January 2014.

The victim told the police that she was attacked while walking towards her VW Golf, which was at the time parked outside her parent’s house, along Pollux Street.

A maroon BMW pulled over next to her Golf, and three armed men got out of the BMW, confronted her, and demanded her car keys.

A struggle over the car keys and her jewellery ensued between the hijackers and the victim.

Her father who was at the time walking towards the gate, went back to the house to fetch his firearm.

In an attempt to scare the hijackers away, he fired several shots, but that did not help.

In reaction, the thugs also started shooting.

The robbers overpowered the victim, and managed to take her car keys and jewellery, before fleeing the scene in both vehicles.

No one was injured during the shootout, apart from pieces of a bullet that ricocheted back to the father and slightly injured his nose.

The attackers are still at large.
