ANCYL says farewell to Madiba on Reconciliation Day
The African National Congress Youth League marked Reconciliation Day on Monday, December 16, by placing a banner with a farewell message to the late former president Nelson Mandela on Shell-House, the previous headquarters of the ANC.

The message on the banner read: “Madiba, a man of peace and reconciliation”.
“December 16 is a day upon which we remember the formation of the people’s army, Umkhonto WeSizwe with Nelson Mandela as a commander-in-chief,” says ANCYL national spokesperson, Dr Bandile Masuku in a statement.
“On this day, we call on all South Africans in particular young people to embrace reconciliation as a building-block towards a united, democratic, non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa.
“We also remember all those Heroes who fell at the battle of Ncome 1838 on this day.
The youth league also commends the ANC government on its recent unveiling of a 9 meter-long-statue of President Nelson Mandela in the seat of government, as symbol of defeat of apartheid doctrines and policies.
The organization also calls on young people to enjoy their festive season responsibly and in a manner that promotes peaceful co-existence of all races and national groupings.
“We expect our fellow young people to assist the police in curbing crime and drug use,” concludes Masuku.
