Boksburg remembers Madiba

The death of one of the most celebrated and loved politicians in history - Nelson Mandela - on Thursday evening, December 5, has sparked an outpouring of grief and remembrance for the international icon for peace and equality.

“On behalf of the Boksburg communities, we wish to pay tribute to the late president Nelson Mandela, our liberation hero,” says Dr Edward Hank, former resident of Reiger Park who is Northern Cape Provincial Government health manager in a statement, shortly following Madiba’s death.

“The death of Madiba brought so much sadness to many of us. We mourn his passing. We bid farewell to one of the world’s greatest Statesmen. We celebrate his vision, his wisdom and unassuming nature.

“We are grateful to God for having given us such a remarkable statesman and a leader with so much modesty and astuteness. He fought tirelessly side by side in true harmony and peace.

“We say thank you to Madiba, who after 27 years of incarceration, have shown us by example how to truly forgive and to tolerate one another, and to join hands to build a progressive and a prosperous country for our future generation.

“We humble convey our sincere condolences to the Mandela family. May his soul rest in peace.”

Many other residents of Boksburg shared their feelings via Twitter and Facebook.
