Renovation work to upgrade the facilities is going slowly.
In June, the metro confirmed that renovation work to upgrade toilet facilities at the lake had started.
However, when the Advertiser visited the lake grounds this month, we found that the project is not yet completed and the workers were nowhere to be seen.
Hundreds of people from across the East Rand are expected to visit the lake on December 16, to celebrate the Day of Reconciliation, and they will obviously need the facilities.
Apparently, according to a source, the contractors who were appointed to carry out repairs on the toilet facilities have abandoned the project, leaving it unfinished.
It’s unclear why they decided to leave the work incomplete.
The hundreds of visitors who are expected will, it seems, have no choice, but to relieve themselves against the trees in full view of other visitors.
The Advertiser approached the metro for comment on this matter, but none had been received at the time of going to press.
