A hazardous playground in Windmill Park
The DA in Ekurhuleni has expressed disbelief at the ruling party’s choice of a site for a playground, in Windmill Park, and has called it bad planning on the part of the metro for building a park in the middle of a dumpsite.
Clr Tsholofelo Motshidi and constituency head Lebo More, MPL, were shocked to discover the park on Strandloper Street, which has wooden benches, concrete tables and chairs and braai facilities, surrounded by rubbish.
Motshidi said residents cannot possibly use the park or the facilities, as they pose a health risk to anyone who visits the area.
“This is clearly only a box-ticking exercise, so that the ruling party can pat itself on the back for providing a park for these residents without first having cleared the area,” says Angela Barnes, DA spokesperson.
“Originally, when residents were told of the plans to build a park, they were excited at the prospect and the white elephant that the metro delivered shows disdain for the very people who would have made use of this facility.”
Motshidi will be asking questions in council about who approved the site for the park and what the metro plans to do in order to make this facility a place where children can play.
The Advertiser is still awaiting comment from the metro on the matter.
