The Boksburg SAPS says that they have noticed an emerging trend where a gang of robbers have been posing as contract workers assigned to render maintenance services in order to gain entry to people’s homes.
The robbers in disguise usually trick domestic workers into allowing them into the property, and once inside, some of the attackers would distract the domestic worker, while their accomplices are busy ransacking the house and stealing goods, including electric appliances, jewellery, cash and other valuable items.
The best way for domestic workers to identify who’s at the door or gate, would be to phone their bosses to verify an appointment, before deciding whether to allow strangers into the premises.
If still in doubt, they should call the police.
Police in Boksburg recently investigated three house robberies committed by a gang of men in work clothing, posing as home maintenance workers.
In these latest cases, the robbers in disguise got away with thousands of rands worth of goods.
The reports, which surfaced recently, indicate that the attackers usually travel together in a van and they are armed with knives.
The police remind residents that it is unwise to challenge armed robbers, as this may lead to them becoming more violent, thereby increasing the risk of serious harm or injury.
The Boksburg SAPS encourages everyone to report suspicious activity by calling their nearest police station or 10111.
