“The victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car with two other passengers, when he was allegedly approached by four unknown men and shot at,” says Dawn Park police spokesperson, W/O Prudence Mvelase.
Mvelase says the three men, in the vehicle, were apparently waiting for their companions, as they were locking up their shop.
“The driver was shot in the chest and the bullet went through and hit the passenger’s arm,” says Mvelase.
“The backseat passenger managed to escape into the shop with no injuries,” she adds.
Mvelase says the suspects proceeded to fire shots into the shop and also attempted to hijack the car unsuccessfully.
The driver died in hospital, while the passengers survived, however, one person is said to be in a critical but stable condition.
A case of attempted murder, murder and attempted carjacking has been opened, but no arrests have yet been made.
