Court news in brief

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Jason Hutcheon (40), from Townsview, appeared in court on a charge of faud.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on October 28 to 12 months imprisonment.

On April 11, the accused posed as Shaun Viljoen and tried to obtain a cellphone contract to the value of R10 000 from Chatz Cellular.

He had previous convictions of theft from June 2008, January 2010 and fraud from June 2011.

Magistrate Emmanuelle Magampa presided over the matter, and Palesa Setshedi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Sphamadela Mabata (24), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of house break-in with the intent to steal.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on October 30 to three years imprisonment.

On August 13, the accused unlawfully entered the premises of Hendrick Nkosi and stole electrical cables, copper cables, water pipes and a kitchen sink among other items.

He had previous convictions of robbery from August 2005, possession of an unlicenced firearm from August 2005, house break-in from January 2007, possession of an unlicenced firearm from January 2008 and possession of drugs from September 2012.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Thulani Sandile Nxosa (26) and Sfiso Zulu (31), both from Mapleton appeared in court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

They pleaded guilty, and were found guilty, on October 15, and sentenced on October 30 to R3 000 or 12 months imprisonment.

On July 19, the men assault Ntombi Futhi Lunga by kicking and hitting her with an axe.

The complainant sustained lacerations to her head.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Matshedi Mphuthi (28), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on charges of rape and aggravated robbery.

He pleaded not guilty on July 20, was found guilty on July 22, and sentenced on October 28 to 10 years for rape and five years from robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently.

On January 31, the accused raped and using a firearm stole R3 000, a phone and perfume from an adult female.

He had a previous conviction of house break-in from July 2005.

Magistrate Kganki Phahlamohlaka presided over the matter, and Vuthlari Mulungwa appeared on behalf of the State.
