The child was allegedly kidnapped by the man outside her neighbour’s shack and taken to a nearby bush, on the morning of October 16.
When the mother realised the child was missing a massive search, which involved the community, was launched to help find the young girl.
Sgt Mashudu Phathela, spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, says the man was battered by residents of the Joe Slovo informal settlement after he was allegedly caught in a compromising position with the child, and had to be admitted in hospital.
“The man was discharged from hospital on Monday and appeared in court for a bail hearing on the same day,” says Phathela.
The case is still being investigated by the SAPS.
