Mr and Miss Damelin 2013

Damelin students are gearing up to crown Mr and Miss Damelin Boksburg 2013, on Saturday, November 9.

As much as the annual event is a social event for Damelin students, the main objective of the pageant is to serve as a fund-raiser for a worthy cause.

This year, the tertiary institution has chosen to donate funds generated through the event to the St Francis Care Centre.

St Francis provides a haven for persons infected or affected by HIV/Aids, who are cared for in a professional and comfortable environment.

The hospice not only cares for HIV patients, but has recently opened its doors to all patients needing palliative care.

The Rainbow Cottage is part of the centre and usually cares for 30 abandoned or orphaned children, ranging from newborn babies to seven-year-old children.

The aim of the pageant is to create community awareness, as well as to encourage students to get involved in charity work, as the contestants are required to complete a minimum of 520 hours of community work.

Anyone interested in attending the event may contact Robin Cadle on 011 848 5800.
