I would like to appeal to the Advertiser to please put emphasis on animal care.
People do not seem to grasp the fact that animals actually need to drink water, eat food and have shelter, besides the love that an animal needs.
Some people are trying to make an attempt at the metal water bowl under the tap – well, with this heat that we are experiencing and going to experience for the next few months it doesn’t take rocket science understand that the water in the boiling sun gets hot.
Seeing the amount of neglected animals, just by driving around on the East Rand, is shocking.
We really need to put an end to people selling animals on the side of the road. This is inhumane.
These animals are being subjected to all weather conditions, as well as the noise from the traffic.
This is such an unnecessary practice, as the shelters are bursting at the seams with puppies, kittens, as well as older animals.
As a matter of fact, it works out cheaper to purchase an animal from a shelter, as it comes with inoculations and sterilisation as well.
Then you have the people who neglect their animals and they die from neglect, so what do they do? They go out and purchase another puppy, though they haven’t been able to give the previous animals attention.
Another thing is that people have animal food, but forget to feed the animal or see that they have drinking water.
People also need to also realise that the days when animals were able to keep us safe is no longer the case.
Animals are now the targets – dogs of all ages and sizes are stolen for dog fighting and taken across the border to neighbouring countries for all purposes.
So, if your dog is able to roam and get out of the gates, or the gardener forgets the gate open and your family pet gets out, the chances aren’t great that you aren’t going to get your pet back.
If they are chipped and you react quickly, you might be able to retrieve your pet, but there are people who wait days before reporting their dog missing. This should be reported to the police.
Maybe the public should catch a wake-up.
