
This is according to Capt Charles Tshabalala, from the Dawn Park police station.
He says the victim of mob justice was terrorising community members with a toy gun.
“The community wanted to set him alight. If police had not arrived on the scene he would be dead,” he says.
Tshabalala adds that the perpetrator robbed a school boy from Villa Lisa High School of his cellphone during the morning with three other accomplishes who managed to escape the mob.
A case of theft has not yet been opened as the school boy is a minor and police will need his parents’ consent.
