Possible police drug involvement poses concern

A concerned Boksburg North resident has expressed her concerns about the nonchalant behaviour of drug dealers in the area and also the possible involvement of police members.

Earlier this year, four Boksburg North SAPS members were suspected to have been involved in two different incidents of drug dealing activities, and the cases are still being investigated.

“Drugs are so freely available on 1st Street in Boksburg North, and drug dealers appear to not even be afraid that they will be seen or caught,” says the resident known to the Advertiser.

“What makes the matter more tragic is that the police are in cahoots with the dealers, as I have seen them being bribed.”

In response to these concerns, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, says that the SAPS together with 50 patrollers have taken to the streets to try identify the problem areas and show visibility.

“Hopefully the presence of the patrollers on Cason Road and 1st Street make a difference,” she says.

With regards to the suspected police involvement, Coetzer calls on to the community members to help curb the activity by reporting corrupt police directly to the station manager.

“Residents are encouraged to write down the registration numbers of the vehicles, the date and the time of the incidents.

“By reporting this to the station manager, we can identify which police were in the area and may be involved with drug dealers,” says Coetzer.

Residents who would like to stay anonymous and report crime, may e-mail Lieut Coetzer on CoetzerJuanita@saps.gov.za.
