Court news in brief

The following cases were tried in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Morné Rabie (18), from Boksburg North, appeared in court on a charge of rape.

He pleaded not-guilty on September 10, 2012, was found guilty on July 11, 2013, and sentenced on September 6 to three years correctional supervision.

On November 4, 2011, the accused committed an act of sexual penetration with a 12-year-old girl. The girl had consented to the act.

Magistrate Ramufhufhi presided over the matter and prosecutor Motha appeared on behalf of the State.

* Sprite Mokgabodi (37), appeared in court on a charge of house break-in with the intent to steal.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on April 25, and sentenced on July 26, to seven years imprisonment.

On November 3, 2001, the accused broke into the home of Jeremiah Mthembu and stole clothes, TV, microwave, two radios, travel bags and bedding.

Magistrate Ramufhufhi presided over the matter, and prosecutor Motha appeared on behalf of the State.

* Tshepo Maphike (28), from Vosloorus, appeared in court for contravening his suspended sentence.

He pleaded not-guilty to a charge of house break-in on 13 September, 2010, and was convicted and sentenced on a charge of theft on October 13, 2010, to three years imprisonment, suspended for five years.

On June 18, the accused was found in possession of suspected stolen property.

The National Prosecuting Authority ordered that the man’s suspended sentence now be implemented.

On September 10, the accused’s suspended sentence was implemented, and he was sentenced to three years imprisonment with two year suspended for five years.

Magistrate Kallie du Plessis presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.
